Cinema for Reflection: God Around the World

Grand Rapids Mayor George Hartwell declared 2012 as the “Grand Rapids Year of Interfaith Understanding”. It is a yearlong effort to cultivate community interest and engagement of all faith traditions in West Michigan. In the series Cinema for Reflection: God Around the World, join Fr. Marcos to view and discuss three movies, each focusing on the struggles of a different faith. The sessions will be held over three Mondays -- January 23rd, 30th and February 6th from 1:00pm til 3:30pm OR from 6:30pm til 8:45pm.

1/23 - Ghandhi -- 1982 (Hinduism)
Biographical film based on the life of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, starring Ben Kingsley. Gandhi is an intriguing story about activism, politics, religious tolerance and freedom.

1/30 - Kundun -- 1997 (Buddhism)
Epic biographical film chronicling the life of the 14th Dalai Lama. Kundun meaning “presence” is the title by which the Dalai Lama is addressed. Tenzin Thuthob Tsarong, a grand nephew of the Dalai Lama, stars as the adult Dalai Lama.

2/6 - One Night with the King -- 2006 (Judaism)
A historical film based on the novel “Hadassah:One night with the King” by Tommy Tenney and Mark Andrew Olsen. It is the Old Testament story of Queen Esther who risked her life by approaching the king to request that he save the Jewish people.

The Catholic Information Center offers a variety of opportunities for learning and spiritual growth. All interested persons (from any religious background) are welcome to participate. There is no registration fee, but a donation of $5.00 per class session is requested from those who are able to contribute.

Free, secure parking is available for all who attend our classes. The parking ramp entrance is on Wealthy Street. Handicap parking is available in the ramp and also in the front parking lot facing Division Avenue.
