Scary story in the news about skin cancer and young women. It looks like there's an increase in Melanoma among young women. Melanoma is the most deadly form of skin cancer. The first signs of melanoma may be a mole that changes in appearance, bleed, or has more than one color or an irregular shape. You know, I had forgotten I had anything done so I did a double-take. It was weird. I said "oh, ... well ... thank you". It startled me...but I really didn't mind. Please forgive me...still working on getting the pictures up there, but I had to write and tell you what happened the other day. I was talking to our intern, Katie. Somehow we got into a conversation about our ages. She asked how old Tommy and I are and so of course I said "How old do you think we are?" Well, the details are not important, but she actually guessed that I was 6 years younger than I really am. Isn't that cool? I have to attribute that to the procedure I just had at Dermatology Associates. It is called the ActiveFX. Okay...so it has been awhile, and it just keeps getting better. I sometimes forget that I had the ActiveFX done, until I rest my face on my hand. I'm seriously, you can't believe HOW GOOD it feels. It is amazing. From what the doctors at Dermatology Associates say, it will continue to look (and feel) better and better. Next, there's another proceedure I want to try to help the dark circles under my eyes look better. Quick and easy and (nearly) painless. I'm hoping it will help me not look so tired all the time. I'll keep you posted.

I have to tell you this because it is so sweet! I went to Dermatology Associates yesterday for a follow-up visit and it turned into so much more than that. I've told you how nice they are at that office, right?! But get this...in the midst of asking how my face is doing, some of the nurses asked me about Lettie. They wanted to know how Lettie is doing. Isn't that sweet?! They told me how moved they were by the story of Lettie and how some of them had even cried hearing about her struggles on their way into work. They are so amazing there. Anyway...they also checked my progress and said it looks great, but they also said, it is not done tightening. It will continue to look better and better. I can't wait!

Okay...so here's just over one week after the procedure. Can you see a difference? I can, but according to the doctors at Dermatology Associates, it will look better and better as time goes by. Apparently, it takes a few weeks to really see a difference. (no make up in this photo...so view at your own risk!)

So it has been a week. Are you curious about what I've gone through in the last week and what I look like now? I will put a picture up really soon, but I can tell you...it was weird. Not bad, just weird. For the first couple of days, it was like I had a bad sunburn. I had to put Aquaphor on to help with the healing process. It made me feel like a walking grease ball. Seriously. But...it did help. After the sunburn feeling, it kind of starts to peel like a sunburn. They tell you to not pick the flakes off, but you can wash it lightly which made it better. The flaking was weird, too...but when that part was done (about 2 days) it was amazing. My daughter kept asking if she could touch it because my face is so smooth. I can't wait to show you!! Okay...so I did it. I actually did it. Can you believe it? I went to Dermatology Associates and had the Active FX procedure. Wow. I can't believe I let them take pictures of everything. Are you ready to see them?

Could they help me? Could they help my skin be healthier AND look younger? Hey...if you're going to make a change, you might as well get the bonus of having it look younger, too...right? I went back to Dermatology Associates for a consultation. They told me about the newest aesthetic trend in lasers called the ActiveFX. This new laser is groundbreaking. I guess I always thought that people that had 'work done' were laid up for weeks and that it would take weeks to see any difference. Not so with the ActiveFX. This thing takes 20 minutes (the procedure part) and the down time is only a couple days. And they said 'down-time' meaning...you might not want to be seen for a couple days, but not like you're feeling miserable and need to be horizontal for days. They showed me some before and after pictures and I was impressed. See for yourself...

So, I found out my skin has some sun damage. Eek. I thought those were just cute freckles. Somehow, I thought they made me look younger. But in reality, if I don't do something, I will look older quicker. You've seen those people that look really good after they have a nice tan. And you've seen those people that just keep getting tan...and tanner...and pretty soon, they're going to a tanner all year long because they think it makes their skin look better. You may have also seen people who've done this year after year and now actually look a little like leather. Okay...so I'm getting off on a little tangent...but what's the deal? Why isn't having truly healthy skin more appealing than having colorful skin?? I know I can't answer all of life's questions on this little blog, but it does make you think, doesn't it? I've decided I would rather have healthy skin and that, I believe will be much more appealing and beautiful. (And will last longer than leather...) Stay tuned.

Hi there! I am very excited to tell you about Dermatology Associates Skin Renewal Center.  Just hearing the word 'dermatology' is a little nerve-wracking, because it makes you think that you have a skin issue.  How can you know for sure?  I recently visited Dermatology Associates and experienced their complimentary Visia Skin Complexion Analysis. And I must say, since I am not one that 'worships the sun’; I thought I was probably ok.  But I learned that my skin, even though it didn't look like it, actually had some sun damage. Stay tuned.
