In the rain....but we still had tons of fun!!!

About me

Britta surfing in San Diego last Fall.....Self portrait with Britta's girls this past August...Little Miss Grumpy Face upset because she couldn't hold the camera.    tee hee!

Hi there!   My name is Britta....yes that's my real, birth-given name.  I was born and raised in Muskegon.  After high school I high-tailed it out to Southern California to pursue a career in singing.  WOW...talk about a culture shock!   Loved it!!!!  Started singing for local San Diego sporting events (the Padres, the Chargers, the San Diego Marathon , etc).     My 5 seconds of fame came when I was selected to be the very first National Anthem singer to follow Roseanne Barr and her infamous rendition of the National Anthem.  Oh the pressure!!   My opinion....don't hire a comedian to sing (unless it's Adam Sandler...jeeesh!!!)    My second 5 seconds of fame came when I was a contestant on THE PRICE IS RIGHT.   Bob Barker made fun of me the whole time because I didn't know what I was doing....that is...until I guessed the correct price on the item exactly (In Your Face Bob!!).  The weight lifting set I won is still in my basement to this very day....un-used.

My Radio Career?   I was selected to be the musician of the week on a Southern California radio station....they started inviting me to record some radio jingles and sweepers....and BAM!! I was bit...by the radio bug.   After almost four years of California living I decided to move back to Michigan (we all come back you know).    I missed my family...and the lower cost of living.      I started working at a local West Michigan station...and I've been loving radio ever since!!!   Yikes that was 15 years ago!    I then became married and a mother to two beautiful daughters.
When I'm not working...or cleaning my house...or grocery shopping...eeeck....I love to bake, love to be outside...I love gardening and tinkering around the house.

My hobbies?   well...as I mentioned baking (love it) I love anything to do with art.  Sketching, painting, doing crafty things, homemade gifts are the best I think.   If I have "down time" (yeah right) I would most likely be found wearing sweat pants, reading tabloid magazines (guilty pleasure #1).      Being a touch over 6 feet tall...I'm thee most uncoordinated person I know....however, I do love to snow ski, surf and going for long walks to anywhere (no chewing gum at the same time though).

My favorite types of music?   Everything!!!   It all depends on my mood.  I LOVE classical music....blues...old school funk...old school punk...rock...pop (LOVE the 80's)....I really like current stuff too though...it's all good baby!

Movies?   I love watching movies...romantic, classic, funny, feel-good types.  NO scary movies for me please!   Real life is waaaayyy too scary enough at times.    Forest Gump is my hero!!!

Actually,  any person who can perform random
acts of kindness...without requiring anything in return .... is my hero!

BAKING WITH BRITTA
Here are some of my all time favorite FALL recipes.... Enjoy!!!

APPLE CRUNCH
My absolute FAVORITE Fall dessert recipe EVER!!!...BTW: it was handed down from my Great Grandmother Lamb

Ingredients:
12-15 baking apples of your choice (the uglier...the better)
3 cups Quick Oats
3 sticks (real) Melted Butter
1 1/2 cup Granulated Sugar
1 1/4 cup Flour
Ground Cinnamon
Ground Cloves
Ground Nutmeg
Preheat oven to 350 degrees....grease a 9x 13 cake pan...set aside.   In a large microwavable safe bowl melt 3 sticks of butter.   Add the 3 cups Quick Oats, Flour and sugar....mix completely until consistanciy is all blended and a moist crumbly.  Press 1/2 of the crumbly mixture into the bottom of the cake pan.  Peel, core and cut all apples into small slices or cubes....put on top of the crust....sprinkle with cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg (lighltly...to your specific taste)....Sprinkle/Spread evenly the remainder of the crumble mixture over the cut apples.  Place pan on the center rack of the oven.....bake for 1 hour.
Serve warm with vanilla ice cream...OH MY GOSH....TASTES LIKE HEAVEN!!!!

MOM'S LASAGNA
Thee best Lasagna recipe ever!!!
Ingredients:
1 lb. ground sirloin
1/2 lb. ground sausage
1 chopped onion
3 cloves minced garlic
4 cups tomato juice
6 ounce can of tomato paste
1/2 lb.  sliced mushrooms (I prefer canned)
1 TBSP. Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. ground pepper
1 tsp. parsley flakes
1 tsp. crushed oregano
1 (8 ounce) package of DRY Lasagna noodles
1 lb. Ricotta cheese
2 cups shredded Mozarella cheese
1 1/2 cups grated Romano and Parmesan cheeses

Brown ground beef and sausage in a large sauce pan....drain.  Stir in tomato juice, tomato paste, garlic, onion, mushrooms, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, parsley, and oregano.  Simmer 30 minutes, stirring occasionally (mixture should be saucey and wet...NOT condensed and dried up)
Arrange a layer of DRY un-cooked noodles on the bottom of a large greased casserole baking pan.   Top with half of the sauce mixture, half of the cheeses.  Repeat...dry un-cooked noodles, sauce and cheeses.   Cover with tin foil...bake on center rack in a pre-heated 350 degree oven for 45 minutes.  Remove foil....sprinkle with a little parsley (for looks)....bake uncovered for another 15 - 25 minutes.  Remove from oven and let stand for at least 20 minutes.  SO YUMMY!!!!
